How much do lessons cost & when do I pay? $25 per lesson. For each student in the family after the initial student, just $20 per lesson. Pay by the month at the first lesson of each month; any lessons you schedule to miss ahead of time will not be charged.
What about books & cost? Initial book investment is around $25. You can buy them online or Davy can purchase them for you. Sometimes, he is able to use books you already have from previous lessons.
Will I get a refund if I miss a lesson I've already paid for? If you miss a scheduled, already-paid lesson, you will not receive a refund, although Davy is happy to schedule a make-up session during regular piano hours that week. However, if Davy must cancel, you will be refunded or credited to the next month.
If I miss a scheduled lesson, can I do a make-up lesson? Yes! You can make up the lesson during regular piano lesson hours, up to once per month.
What are lessons like? 30 minutes each. A mix of playing "by ear", learning practical theory, and learning to read music. Age-appropriate lesson books are used as a road map but detours are taken based on student interest. Davy has a laid-back approach to teaching and his lessons are easy-going, fluid, and laughing is often heard.
How young can children begin? Davy has taught children as young as four, but he finds it best to start, on the earliest, around 6 or 7, when the student’s fingers are strong enough to press the keys sufficiently and stretch to needed keys.
I want to be a classical performing pianist. Is Davy the right teacher for me? No, he’s not. Davy reads music and understands theory in a free-spirited sort of way, with the end goals of personal enjoyment, church worship, performing with a band, playing for social functions/weddings, etc. While he certainly can teach the aspiring classical performer beginning piano, a more structured & technical teacher should be sought out as the student progresses.
I want to learn to play for my band or church, other social functions, recording purposes, or just for myself. Is Davy the right teacher for me? Yes and yes! Davy has been playing for those reasons for over 30 years and will teach you how he learned to play and how he understands & interacts with music.
